ALL ABOUT INDUSTRIAL STYLE
Features of the style
Industrial style is what we call, „the whispering of history”. Industrial is the exposure of the honest nature of the building, showing its bare bricks and existing structural elements. An industrial interior does not afraid to show its pipes, concrete floor or unfinished details. This style likes to work with concrete, enormous spaces, high ceilings, steel, raw wood, exposed bricks, monochromatic colors, rough textures and what is the most important, details salvaged from a forgotten era such as industrial lamps, metal lockers, metal spinning stools or giant spotlights.
Industrial is not a style of prime. It is perfect, because it is honest.
A little history
There are many rumours about how industrial style became so popular and where is it originated from. The most current story is that it came from Manhattan about 60 years ago where the not too wealthy artists were trying to find a place where they can live and work under the same roof. This had to be a large open area where they would fit their workshop and living space as well so they started to occupy old warehouses and dividing large areas of abandoned factories between each other. It wasn’t a style but more like a need that later became so cool and trendy because of it’s simple, sharp lines true edges and exposed clean raw materials. Today you can find this movement in million dollar houses as much as in it's original artistic medium. We think the breakline was when people started to realize, that these treasures are extremely rare, the aesthetic made the transition from utilitarian usage to desirable. After all, we constantly evoke the past, be it fashion, literature or even art.
We think that there is something in bringing unusual pieces into our houses and living areas. It feels like we own a piece of history that seen so much and also it’s kind of like taming a wild, forgotten thing, giving it a second chance, a second life and make it our own.
This is what we like most of this style. It does not want to show itself fancy or elegant, and the raw, natural power, since they are not plastic nor weak, they are tough, they are massive and they matter.
The market is developing
It is absolutely clear that the market always wants to adapt to the current style, fashion or trend. We think there are two reasons what made industrial style so popular. Firstly, the style of lofts conquered the whole world as soon as people discovered the benefits and beauty of abandoned industrial spaces, secondly environmental awareness and ‘re-thinking’ became fashionable and classy too, which gave another push for industrial. People started to realize, that consuming less, and making something reasonable out of something you already have – is cool.
We are sure, everybody have seen “industrial like” furniture or the pursuit to be industrial. But the thing is, this style cannot be copied. The main characters of the style may be hit off, but it is so obvious when an item or an interior does not whisper in your ear.
Industrial is all about the genuineness.
